Gaiwans
(Lidded Tea Bowls)

Perhaps the earliest cup used especially for loose tea, these lidded or "covered' cups are a most useful vessel. The cup of choice in many parts of China they can also be used in lieu of a teapot. The saucer prevents burned finger tips and the lid keeps the tea hot and the aromas in. It is also used to hold back the leaves when sipping. All of our gaiwans come from China's historic porcelain capital, Jing De Zhen.
